A huge music scene, beautiful cathedrals, world famous football clubs, miles of coastlines and an incredible culinary offer, there’s so much to explore in Liverpool.
Journey through the city’s range of museums, galleries, historic buildings and of course iconic nightlife. Groups of all interests are spoilt for choice, whether it be discovering Liverpool’s links to popular music, or uncovering its fascinating heritage attractions.
Here’s what you could pack into a day…
9am: head over to the Royal Albert Dock, to explore the beautiful Grade I listed buildings and everything on offer. There’s a whole host of attractions to see including the Maritime Museum and The International Slavery Museum. Royal Albert Dock is also a pick up point for a range of city tours including Liverpool City Sights, City Explorer, Splash Tours and the Magical Mystery Tour.
Wander around the colonnades taking in the beautiful views and stop off for a coffee along the way in one of the many independent coffee shops.
10.30am: no trip to Liverpool is complete without delving into the history of The Beatles, you are in the birthplace of the biggest band in the world after all. The Beatles Story is an immersive exhibition that takes you through the journey of the Fab Four - from the early days of the band through to Beatlemania and their solo careers. It’s located at the Royal Albert Dock, making it a convenient stop after your morning stroll.
12:30pm: for lunch, what better place to rest your legs than at Liverpool Cathedral? One of two cathedrals in the city and also the biggest cathedral in the UK, enjoy a tasty bowl of Liverpool’s most famous dish, Scouse, in the Welsford Bistro. The fish and chips is also a customer favourite, or you can enjoy a selection of sandwiches, cakes and coffee.
If you have time after lunch, climb to the top of the tower for panoramic views of the whole city or take some time to enjoy the stunning interiors.
2pm: fuelled from lunch, head over to Liverpool Waterfront, home to the Three Graces. The Royal Liver Building, The Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building sit pride of place on Pier Head. Take a minute to snap some photos with the beautiful buildings and the famous Beatles Statue before heading into the Cunard Building to visit the British Music Experience.
The British Music Experience tells the story of British music through the decades with memorabilia on display from some of the biggest artists in the world. With costumes, instruments and personal items from the likes of The Beatles, Oasis, David Bowie, The Spice Girls, Adele and Eurovision’s Sam Ryder, you’re sure to see something quirky.
4pm: like the famous song suggests, take a classic ferry ride across the River Mersey with Mersey Ferries. This 50-minute River Explorer cruise gives you stunning views of the Liverpool skyline whilst an on board audio guide provides you with lots of local history from both sides of the river, making it both relaxing and informative for the whole group.
6pm: there are lots of options, perfect for groups to enjoy an evening meal in the city. Have a look at Fazenda at Exchange Flags for a re-imagination of traditional Argentinian and Brazilian dishes.
Take in the beautiful views of the Royal Albert Dock whilst enjoying Spanish tapas at Lunyalita or visit Duke Street Market on Duke Street for a range of kitchens offering flavours from around the world.
8pm: after dinner, walk over to The Cavern Club, the legendary venue where The Beatles played 292 times. Enjoy live music, a vibrant atmosphere, and a piece of history. Or, explore the rest of Liverpool’s nightlife. Take in the atmosphere of Mathew Street and dance the night away, enjoy sophisticated cocktails on Castle Street or take in the historic venues of Hope Street.
