Royal Caribbean International has unveiled some of the new features to be added to Independence of the Seas as the ship undergoes a multi-million pound makeover.
Independence of the Seas will return to sailings in summer 2018 with an onboard aqua park called Splashaway Bay. The interactive aqua park will feature waterslides, water cannons, fountains, pools and a drench bucket.
Also new will be an exotic speciality dining restaurant called Izumi. The Asian-inspired dining experience, due to extend the speciality dining onboard the ship, will give guests the chance to enjoy fresh sushi and experience hibachi chefs cooking tableside on Teppanyaki grills.
New lounges and panoramic ocean view staterooms have also been announced for guests to take in the views from the comfort of their room. Wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling views will apparently give guests ‘the feeling of standing on the bridge of the ship’, all from the privacy of their own stateroom.
The onboard theatre will also be revamped, set to showcase Broadway hit, Grease, plus, there will be improvements made to the ship’s ice rink.
This news follows the announcement that features including an Escape Room, top deck trampolines, and a laser tag arena are also confirmed as part of the makeover plans. More features are yet to be revealed.
Group travel organisers considering a holiday onboard the Independence of the Seas will find the ship sailing from Southampton from summer 2018. The ship will visit destinations in Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean.
