The Canterbury Tales has revealed two new workshops for groups at its visitor experience based around Chaucer’s 14th century England.
The two interactive workshops are exclusively for adults and can be added on to the Medieval experience.
Groups can choose from either sculpting or calligraphy for their choice of workshop, in which they learn a skill.
The sculpting option will allow groups to explore the history of Medieval gargoyles in a workshop led by Kent based sculptor and art leader, Brenda Burgess.
Groups will also learn about the sculpting techniques required to create their own gargoyle sculpture.
Visitors who choose the calligraphy workshop will produce their own work with quill pens and ink to take home as a souvenir.
During the workshop, they will learn about calligraphy creations of the past under the tutorage of local calligrapher and artist, Julia Baxter.
Lyndsay Ridley, general manager at The Canterbury Tales, commented, “Our new workshops are an excellent addition to a group visit to The Canterbury Tales, offering our guests a chance to further explore the Medieval culture they are immersed in on the tour.”
Visiting groups will begin their day at the Tabard Inn, where they will be joined by a costumed guide. The guide will then help groups explore the attraction, recreating a traditional pilgrimage from London to Canterbury.
Along the way, they will find themselves in the middle of a story-telling contest and hear five entertaining tales, as well as experience the Medieval sights, sounds and smells of 14th century England.
The tour of the attraction ends at the shrine of St Thomas Becket.
A buffet lunch will be on the cards for groups next, followed by the two-hour workshop of their choice, which will take place in a dedicated space near the attraction.
All workshops include entry to The Canterbury Tales, a guidebook and buffet lunch.
