I met the team from HF Holidays at the Group Leisure & Travel Show in Milton Keynes last October. I put a card into their box to enter a competition they had to win a holiday in one of their houses and to my surprise, I had won! The holiday, in March this year, was for three nights which we extended to four by paying extra so that we could go to Newfield Hall in the Yorkshire Dales.

The group explored Malham Tarn (pictured) and the waterfall at Janet’s Foss.

The 46-room (a choice of classic, premium and superior) house, like all of the HF Holidays properties, is set in lovely surroundings and is very well appointed in terms of furnishings and made for a very comfortable stay. There was everything you could need including a bar lounge, two seating lounges, an information room as well as entertainment from a quiz to skittles or curling

There is the option to do your own itinerary as well with plenty of maps and information available. We went for the Southern Yorkshire Dales Walking Holiday which included the impressive Malham Cove and Janet’s Foss Waterfall.

HF Holidays exhibited at the GLT Show 2023 - and displayed their Group Leisure & Travel Award for Best Group Tour Operator with pride.

We were told to arrive for 4pm for afternoon tea and to fill in our dinner menu choice and packed lunch choice for the next day. Then we had a meeting at 6.30pm with the walking leaders in the lounge. We discussed which walk we would challenge ourselves to the following day. We went for the 3-4 walking grade which included walks ranging from seven to 11.5 miles.

It was then time for dinner - we enjoyed a delightful three course meal. The tables at the house were all for six occupants and we joined a different group every evening which was lovely. There was a huge choice for breakfast too and it was great to be able to pick up our packed lunches before setting off on our walks each day from the aptly named Boot Room - no muddy/wet boots in our room!

The walks were great with friendly company and beautiful scenery. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip!
