A round-up of nine shows that are extending in London’s Theatreland. Find out which ones, when they are now booking to, and what you should go and see.

1. Mamma Mia! at the Novello Theatre

The global hit musical has announced a new cast and an extension of its booking period to Saturday 27th September 2025 at London’s Novello Theatre. 

About the show: The tale of a mother, a daughter and three possible dads on a Greek island idyll, all unfolding to the magic of ABBA’s timeless pop masterpieces, has been seen in over 50 productions in 16 different languages grossing more than £4.5 billion at the box office and turned into two record-breaking films. 

The London production of Mamma Mia! has been seen by over ten million people, played over 9,500 performances and has broken box office records in all three of its London homes. In February it set a new record for the highest ever weekly gross in the musical’s London history.

2. Matilda The Musical at the Cambridge Theatre

Matilda The Musical has extended until May 2026.

Matilda The Musical is the multi-award winning musical from the Royal Shakespeare Company. The show has extended at London’s Cambridge Theatre until May 2026.

About the show: Inspired by Roald Dahl’s beloved book, Matilda is the story of an extraordinary little girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. The internationally renowned musical has been seen by 12 million people across 100 cities around the world.

3. SIX the Musical at the Vaudeville Theatre

SIX the Musical has won 35 awards worldwide.

Award-winning musical, SIX has announced a further extension to the West End show, with tickets now available at the Vaudeville Theatre until 30th November 2025.

About the show: Join Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anna of Cleves, Katherine Howard and Catherine Parr, backed by their on-stage band, the Ladies in Waiting. Experience the Tudor Wives’ lives as they turn back the clock and take to the stage to retell their stories of love, loss and the infamous ex they all have in common. 

Winner of over 35 international awards, including two 2022 Tony Awards, three WhatsOnStage awards, and nominated for five Oliviers, SIX can also be seen live on stage worldwide, as well as in London’s West End.

4. The Play That Goes Wrong at the Duchess Theatre

Performances of The Play That Goes Wrong have been extended to February 2026.

The Olivier and Tony-Award-winning The Play That Goes Wrong has announced an extension to performances to February 2026. 

About the show: Opened at the Duchess Theatre in September 2014, The Play That Goes Wrong is a classic whodunnit story given to the accident-prone thespians at The Cornley Drama Society. However, everything that can go wrong… does. The actors and crew battle against all odds to make it through to their final curtain call.

Co-writers Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer and Henry Shields said: “We are so proud that The Play that Goes Wrong is celebrating its tenth birthday in the West End. It is a such a joyful show that still makes us laugh even now. We are so grateful to everyone who has been part of its decade long journey.” 

5. The Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre has extended its booking until Saturday 27th September 2025, with daily performances, including Wednesday and Saturday matinees. 

About the show: The famous score includes Music of the NightAll I Ask of You and the iconic title song. The production tells the tale of a disfigured musical genius known only as ‘The Phantom’ who haunts the depths of the Paris Opera House. 

Mesmerised by the talents and beauty of a young soprano – Christine, the Phantom lures her as his protégé and falls fiercely in love with her. Unaware of Christine’s love for Raoul, the Phantom’s obsession sets the scene for a dramatic turn of events where jealousy, madness and passions collide.

6. Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre

Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre.

Boublil and Schönberg’s Les Misérables at the Sondheim Theatre has once again extended its booking, now running until Saturday 6th September 2025.

About the show: Seen by over 130 million people worldwide in 53 countries and in 22 languages, Les Misérables is into its 40th year in London. The show currently stars Milan van Waardenburg as Jean Valjean, Stewart Clarke as Javert, and Katie Hall as Fantine. Groups will know the songs I Dreamed a Dream, On My Own, and Bring Him Home

The hit show has also launched its first world tour, Les Misérables The Arena Spectacular, beginning in Belfast and visiting Glasgow, Sheffield, Aberdeen, Manchester, and Newcastle as well as Milan, Copenhagen, Oslo, Amsterdam, Australia, and Japan.

7. Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre

Producers of the West End production of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton at the Victoria Palace Theatre, have announced that booking is extended until Saturday 27th September 2025. 

About the show: The musical, which follows the story of Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of the United States of America, opened in the West End in December 2017 after top reviews while playing across the Atlantic on Broadway. It tells the tale using rap music and lyrics that cleverly weave together a historic story that was largely untold until its release. 

8. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child at the Palace Theatre

A new cast has been announced for the award-winning show.

A new cast has been announced for the multi award-winning London production, as it extends until 29th June 2025. 

About the show: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, which is one play presented in two parts, is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. Parts one and two can either run on a single day (with the first beginning in the afternoon and the second following in the evening), or tickets can also be purchased for each part on different days.

Claire Lams joins the cast to play Ginny Potter, alongside David Ricardo-Pearce as Harry Potter and Ellis Rae as their son Albus Potter, who both continue in their roles. Eve De Leon Allen will take over the role of Rose Granger-Weasley, daughter of Ron Weasley and Hermoine Granger, played by Thomas Aldridge and Jade Ogugua respectively. Steve John Shepherd continues as Draco Malfoy, alongside Harry Acklowe as his son Scorpius Malfoy.

9. Mrs Doubtfire at the Shaftesbury Theatre (final extension)

Hilarious moments from the 1993 movie are recreated on stage.

Mrs Doubtfire will conclude its run at the Shaftesbury Theatre on 26th April 2025, having made its final extension.

About the show: Based on the hit 1993 film, Mrs Doubtfire tells the story of out-of-work actor Daniel. After losing custody in a messy divorce, he creates the alter ego of Scottish nanny Euphegenia Doubtfire in a desperate attempt to stay in their lives.

The 1993 film of the same name was the second highest grossing film of that year worldwide, and the house the family lived in became a top tourist spot in San Francisco. Robin Williams famously played the role of Daniel in the movie.
