What’s your favourite seaside destination for a long weekend away? Blackpool, Scarborough and Bournemouth are amongst the most popular in the UK, according to a recent survey.

Weymouth

Over 6,000 UK hotels and B&Bs took part in a recent survey that indicates the nation’s favourite destinations for long weekend getaways. The results show that the quintessential British seaside break is still as popular as ever, with beach resorts taking 12 of the top 20 destinations visited the most by tourists.

In first place was Blackpool, with Torquay taking fourth place, Scarborough sixth and Weymouth seventh.

Llandudno and Great Yarmouth came ninth and tenth respectively, followed by Shanklin in at 11, Newquay at 12, and Bournemouth at 14. Paignton ranked in 16th place, Whitby at 17, and Brighton in at number 19.

10th place: Great Yarmouth, a coastal town in Norfolk, which has been a seaside resort since 1760.
 

Shanklin

11th place: Shanklin - a popular seaside resort on the Isle of Wight, located on Sandown Bay.
 

Newquay

12th place: Newquay in Cornwall, well known for being a great place for surfing.

16th place: No visit to Paignton in Devon is complete without a stroll along the traditional Paignton Pier.
