What’s Chicago about?

Chicago follows the murderesses on murder row at Cook County Jail. Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, two women accused of murder, battle it out for the affectionate and attention of sleazy lawyer, Billy Flynn, in a bid to be released from prison and become famous.

Chicago originally ran in London for 15 years, making it the West End’s longest running revival. It first opened at the Adelphi Theatre in November 1997 and became a hit with audiences.

Since it opened in New York in 1996, the musical has played in 36 countries worldwide, and been performed in English, Dutch, German, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Italian, French, Danish, Japanese and Korean. It is said to be the world’s longest running American musical.
