A tour to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Messines in Belgium will be available this summer from Galina Group Tours.
From Tuesday 6th to Friday 9th June, groups will be able to take a four day tour to commemorate the Battle of Messines, which took place on 7th June 1917.
The trip involves a tour of the Messines battlefield, a commemorative service at the Island of Ireland Memorial, as well as a tour of the Ypres and Passchendaele battlefields or a tour of the Somme battlefield. Groups will be accompanied by a Galina tour guide.
Groups will also be able to attend the Last Post Ceremony, a tribute to the memory of the soldiers who fought and died in the Ypres Salient in World War One, which takes place every day at 8pm at the Menin Gate.
Personal cemetery visits, as requested by the group, can also be planned into the schedule.
Local pick-up and travel to Dover, a ferry to Calais and onward travel to the group’s accommodation in a 3* B&B in Lille, as well as the return journey, is also included in the package.
Alternatively Galina provides the option to travel overnight with P&O North Sea Ferries from Hull.
