Blackpool Fireworks

VisitBlackpool has announced that fireworks, air shows, the annual Blackpool Illuminations and military events will make up its six month long summer and autumn season, which starts in June.

Military and air shows

The summer programme will begin with the Blackpool Armed Forces Week. This event will run from 19th until 25th June and will celebrate current, past and future serving military personnel.

The show will include a range of events for the public, as well as special offers for members of the Armed Forces and their families, with activities including free concerts, exhibitions, military and ceremonial tributes.

On 12th and 13th August, visitors will have the chance to watch air shows by the Red Arrows, showcasing military and civilian aircraft with aerobatic stunts and fly-bys. The event will be free to attend.

Blackpool Illuminations

The Blackpool Illuminations – one of the town’s most famous annual features – will be turned on on 1st September. Entry is free for visitors who register for tickets, and the event will include musical performances.

Accompanying the build-up to this year’s lights witch on will be a cycling event called Ride the Lights on 29th August. The event will allow cyclists to travel on a six-mile traffic-free course, including a detour through Blackpool Pleasure Beach.

Don’t worry if you don’t want to join in the cycling – the event promises a range of entertainment, stalls, workshops and competitions, and is suitable for all ages and abilities.

The Blackpool Illuminations will last for two months, from 1st September until 5th November, showcasing new features, including LightPool that will demonstrate, amongst other things, digital mapping of The Blackpool Tower. Visitors can enjoy the sights by walking, as well as by car, coach and tram.

The summer and autumn season will end in September, with the annual World Fireworks Championship Blackpool that takes place on 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th September. The event is free to attend and will see a number of pyrotechnic experts compete against each other.
