Following on from the success of 2016, Betteshanger Park near Deal in Kent has announced a 2017 summer season of outdoor cinema screenings.
Set in the heart of the park, both the cinema screen and natural auditorium are entirely uncovered, providing audiences with a great way to enjoy summer evenings in the outdoors.
The alfresco season includes The BFG, a sci-fi all-nighter, Alice Through the Looking Glass and a night where the audience get to vote on what film to watch.
Details of the season
The BFG (2016) will screen on Saturday 6th May. Steven Spielberg’s screen adaptation of this Roald Dahl story tells the imaginative tale of Sophie and her encounters with a kind-hearted giant and the other, less friendly, inhabitants of Giant Country. Doors open at 7pm and the film will start at 8pm.
Groups opting for the sci-fi all-nighter will need to be free on Saturday 24th June. This screening comprises a late-night double-bill of sci-fi films Galaxy Quest (1999) and Moon (2009).
The overnight event will also have star gazing activities, midnight feasts and open air breakfasts. Cinema goers are invited to camp in the park. Doors open at 8pm, with the first film showing at 9.30pm, and second at midnight.
The People’s Choice event will take place on Saturday 19th August. Film lovers can vote on which movie they would like to watch from a choice of: Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them (2016), Beauty and the Beast (2017) and Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012).
Votes can be cast via Betteshanger social media or in person at the park. The poll will close on 17th April and the film choice will be announced the next day.
Closing the outdoor cinema season will be Alice Through the Looking Glass (2016) on 16th September. Tim Burton’s popular adaptation of the Lewis Carroll classic sees Alice return to the whimsical world of Wonderland as she travels back in time to help the Mad Hatter.
Cinema goers are invited to create their own Mad Hatter’s Tea Party before the film. The film starts at 8pm.
Booking is now open for all events; GTOs can book tickets at www.betteshanger-park.co.uk/cinema.
