John Partridge of EastEnders fame and 2013 X Factor winner Sam Bailey have been confirmed to star in next year’s UK tour of the musical Chicago.
Partridge, better known as Christian Clarke in EastEnders, will take on the role of Billy Flynn.
His previous theatre credits include Rum Tum Tugger in Cats in the West End, on tour and the official film of the show, John in Miss Saigon on the first UK national tour, and most recently Zach in A Chorus Line at the London Palladium.
Sam Bailey, who won the tenth series of X Factor, will play prison matron Mama Morton. Coincidentally, Bailey, prior to her X Factor fame, worked as a prison officer at HM Prison Gartree for three years.
Starring alongside them in the lead female role of Roxie Hart will be Hayley Tamaddon, best known for playing the characters of Andrea Beckett in Coronation Street and Del Dingle in Emmerdale.
The Chicago UK tour
Based on real life events in the 1920s, Chicago is about a nightclub singer called Roxie Hart who shoots her lover and consequently ends up in prison.
Along with cell block rival and double-murderess Velma Kelly, Hart has to fight to keep herself from death row with the help of smooth talking lawyer, Billy Flynn.
Chicago will open on 12th February at New Theatre Oxford, and visit a series of venues in major UK cities including Wolverhampton, Manchester and Edinburgh.
The tour will end on 9th July at the Bristol Hippodrome.
