Multi-award winning musical La Cage Aux Folles has just begun its first ever UK tour, with featuring venues including The Lowry at Salford and Milton Keynes Theatre.
The show is presented by Bill Kenwright, and is set to tour until 26th August, with further dates expected to be announced.
About the show
Written by Harvey Fierstein and Jerry Herman, La Cage Aux Folles is based on the 1973 play of the same name by Jean Poiret and follows the story of Georges, the manager of a Saint Tropez nightclub, and his partner Albin, a drag artiste and the club’s star attraction.
The couple lives an idyllic existence in the south of France, but all may be about to change when Georges’ son, Jean-Michel, announces his engagement to the daughter of a right-wing politician determined to close the local nightlife down.
Casting
Actor John Partridge will star in the iconic role of Albin, who shines as star drag act Za Za at the nightclub. Partridge has participated in West End productions, including A Chorus Line at the London Palladium, Cats, Starlight Express and Chicago. He has also played in BBC’s EastEnders and was a judge on Over The Rainbow.
Adrian Zmed will play Georges, Albin’s partner and owner of the nightclub. Zmed co-starred with William Shatner as Officer Vince Romano in the 80s TV show T.J. Hooker. He also played Johnny Nogerelli in the classic film Grease 2 and starred alongside Tom Hanks in Bachelor Party. This will be his first stage appearance in the UK, as he has previously led the casts of Grease, Falsettos and Blood Brothers in Broadway.
In addition, West End artist Marti Webb will play Jacqueline, friend to Albin and Georges, and owner of the restaurant Chez Jacqueline. Webb has played leading roles in numerous West End and touring musicals, including Evita, Godspell, Blood Brothers, Half-a-Sixpence and more.
The rest of the cast includes Dougie Carter, Samson Ajewole, Su Douglas, Alexandra Robinson and others.
