A new tour for musical The Bodyguard will open at the Glasgow Theatre Royal on 3rd December ahead of a circuit of some of the nation’s biggest venues.
Based on Lawrence Kasdan’s 1992 film of the same name starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, The Bodyguard follows the unexpected love story of former Secret Service agent turned bodyguard, Frank Farmer and superstar Rachel Marron.
Frank is hired to protect Rachel from an unknown stalker, and audiences will watch as an unforeseen relationship begins to grow between the two of them.
Described as a romantic thriller, The Bodyguard features a number of Whitney Houston songs including Queen of the Night, So Emotional, One Moment in Time, Saving All My Love, I Have Nothing, I Wanna Dance with Somebody and I Will Always Love You.
The new touring production is directed by Thea Sharrock with book by Oscar winning (Birdman) Alex Dinelaris.
The musical had its world premiere at the Adelphi Theatre in London’s West End in 2012 and was nominated for four Olivier Awards. This tour, confirmed to run until July 2019, will be its second UK circuit.
