Dates have been confirmed for this year’s Salisbury Contemporary Craft and Heritage Festival; the annual event will return to Salisbury Cathedral on 9th, 10th and 11th September.
The festival has been described as a celebration of all things creative in the south west, and groups visiting can browse over 100 stalls from contemporary craft makers and designers.
There will be plenty of wares to choose from, including bespoke jewellery, hand-crafted pots, textiles and furniture.
Groups can also enjoy live demonstrations of heritage craft skills in the ‘have a go’ zone. Visitors can try their hand at a wide variety of skills including wood-turning, pot-throwing, stone-carving, and basket-weaving.
Those who’d prefer to sit and watch can enjoy other demonstrations including Raku firing (a process used for glazing ceramics) and glass-cutting.
There will also be a number of Medieval-style games for visitors of all ages to play, such as ‘Fox and Geese’ and ‘Kubb’ – games that require both tactical thinking and precision.
Meet a Human Book
During the event there will be the opportunity to listen to talks by craft makers, and to interrogate Human Books.
A Human Book is someone who volunteers to challenge prejudice and stereotype through respectful conversation with members of the public.
Visitors interested in taking a Human Book out of the festival’s Human Library can do so on the day, or book in advance.
