Legally Blonde the Musical will go on an extensive new UK tour this September, opening at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley.
The new production will visit UK venues until June 2018. These will include Woking New Victoria, Northampton Derngate, Sheffield Lyceum, and the Southampton Mayflower.
And after a Christmas break, the tour will start again at Belfast Grand Opera House on 26th February before heading to the likes of Canterbury, Nottingham and Liverpool.
Synopsis
Legally Blonde the Musical is described as an all-singing, all-dancing romantic comedy, and is based on the novel by Amanda Brown.
Audiences will follow the story of college sweetheart and homecoming queen, Elle Woods, who heads to law school to reinvent herself when her boyfriend dumps her for someone more serious.
Based on the film starring Reese Witherspoon from 2001, Legally Blonde the Musical earned seven Tony nominations and ten Drama Desk Award nominations during its Broadway run. In the UK it was nominated for five Laurence Olivier Awards winning three, including Best New Musical.
Casting and creatives
Actress Lucie Jones will star as Elle Woods, returning to the role after appearing in a production of the musical at Curve Leicester last year. She is currently starring in the UK tour of Rent and next month will represent the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest in Ukraine.
Jones will be joined in Legally Blonde by EastEnders star Rita Simon in the role of Paulette Bonafonte, and Bill Ward (of Emmerdale and Coronation Street fame) as Professor Callahan.
Legally Blonde the Musical has music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin and a book by Heather Hach.
