It has been announced that Mel Brooks’ comedy musical, Young Frankenstein will have its last West End performance this August, before it embarks on a tour of the UK next year.
The musical, based on the Oscar-nominated movie, will end its year-long residency at the Garrick Theatre on 25th August before it begins a major national tour from September 2019.
Full venue details and dates will be announced later this year when tickets go on sale.
Synopsis: Young Frankenstein
Young Frankenstein is from the brains behind The Producers, Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs – legendary filmmaker and comedian Mel Brooks.
Young Frankenstein, the wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic, sees Frederick Frankenstein, an esteemed New York brain surgeon and professor, inherit a castle and laboratory in Transylvania from his deranged genius grandfather, Victor Von Frankenstein.
He now faces a dilemma - does he continue to run from his family’s tortured past or does he stay in Transylvania to carry on his grandfather’s mad experiments reanimating the dead and, in the process, fall in love with his sexy lab assistant Inga?
Mel Brooks commented: “Thank you London audiences for embracing Young Frankenstein and for making us such a smash hit in the West End. I’m so happy that soon the rest of the UK will get a chance to see it…… so see it before you die or you’ll regret it forever!”
Casting for the tour is yet to be announced. The West End cast currently stars Hadley Fraser, Summer Strallen and Ross Noble.
