The musical Hairspray has announced a new UK tour for 2017/18, which will visit over 30 locations including Sheffield, Dartford, Southampton and Nottingham.
The new UK tour will open on 16th August 2017 at the Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, and is confirmed to run until May 2018.
Venues along the Hairspray tour circuit include the Birmingham Hippodrome, the Curve Theatre in Leicester and the Opera House in Buxton.
Synopsis
Hairspray is set in Baltimore 1962, where Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, is on a mission to follow her dreams and dance her way onto national TV.
Audiences will watch as Tracy’s audition makes her a local star – a role that gives her a chance to fight for racial and gender equality in a turbulent time in American history.
Groups can expect romance, comedy and non-stop dancing and singing during the show. Casting will be announced in due course.

Hairspray features music and lyrics by award-winning duo Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, and is directed by Paul Kerryson, with choreography by Drew McOnie.
The musical is based on the 1988 film of the same name which starred Ricki Lake. The stage adaptation originally opened on Broadway in 2002 and subsequently won eight Tony Awards.
The production went on to open in London at the Shaftesbury Theatre in 2007 and won four Laurence Olivier Awards including Best New Musical.
Following the musical’s success on stage, a film of the musical was released in 2007 which starred John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and James Marsden.
