Groups of classical music lovers can listen to soothing strings as they cruise some of Europe’s most beautiful waterways.
Amadeus River Cruises is offering a choice of two eight-day trips on either the Danube or the Rhine later this year and in 2019.
Both feature specially-arranged music programmes afloat and on land, while an on-board music expert will enhance passengers’ experiences with talks and insider knowledge.
The Rhine cruise sets off from Amsterdam and takes in Cologne and Strasbourg on its way to Basel in Switzerland, while the Danube sailing departs from Passau in Lower Bavaria to Budapest via Vienna.
Concerts and entertainment
Private concerts in unique places, such as a piano recital in the church of St Thomas in Strasbourg or the Beethoven House in Bonn, are a few of the highlights of the Rhine cruise.
On the River Danube, concerts are held in the Residenz in Salzburg, in Melk Abbey, the Moyzes Hall in Bratislava and in Duna Palace in Budapest.
Performances in the famous opera houses in Vienna and Budapest are also something special and not to be missed. During the Passau/Budapest cruise there will be the opportunity to hear the Salzburger Soloists and the Slovak Quintet.
In the beautiful Duna Palace in Budapest, passengers will be entertained by the pianist Martin Ivanov while on board there is music from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra Quartet – all exclusively for cruise guests.
On the Rhine, famous artists such as the organist Daniel Maurer provide the grand finale, while the Dudok Quartet and the Nathan Quartet also entertain on board.
Both cruises feature large, outside, river view staterooms and offer a selection of tailor-made excursions including city tours and wine tastings. Gourmet dining is, of course, a given. The same cruises will sail in 2019 with dates and details to be released in due course.
