Romeo and Juliet to reunite Lily James and Richard Madden once more
Lily James and Richard Madden, who starred in last year’s blockbuster film Cinderella, will reunite once more to star in Romeo and Juliet, showing across the UK from 7th July.
The production will be directed by Kenneth Branagh, who also directed Cinderella.
Lily James is also well known for her role as Lady Rose Alridge in the period drama Downtown Abbey, whereas Richard Madden currently portrays character Robb Stark in the HBO series Game Of Thrones.
Derek Jacobi will play Mercutio in the dramatic tale of forbidden love, which is one of Shakespeare’s most popular works.
Romeo and Juliet will play at the Garrick from 12th May until 13th August, then will be broadcast at participating cinemas around the UK and internationally from 7th July.
The cinema screenings will run between Monday and Saturday, with matinee performances being held on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company will be broadcasting Romeo and Juliet in partnership with Picturehouse Entertainment.
Along with Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare’s most performed plays and could also be one of the most-screened plays of all time.
Kenneth Branagh Theatre Company has also announced that additional encore screenings of The Winter’s Tale will be held until February.
The show – starring Judi Dench – tells the story of obsession and redemption in a new production based on William Shakespeare’s play. The show is currently sold out but will be screened in more than 1,300 cinemas worldwide.
The final production in the Plays at the Garrick season will be The Entertainer, which will also be broadcast to cinemas in 2016.
Other shows currently running include The Painkiller and Red Velvet.
