Shakespeare Distillery in Stratford-upon-Avon has teamed up with Avon Boating to offer gin tasting cruises in a bid to offer groups a unique sailing.
The pre-bookable experience includes a short talk on gin, a tasting of three spirits followed by a glass of Stratford Gin & Tonic, all whilst on a 60-minute cruise.
The sailing offers passengers the chance to enjoy their drink while looking out for local sights including the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Holy Trinity Church where William Shakespeare is buried.
Cruises will run on select dates in July through to October, with groups of up to 40 able to book their spot.
What else is new?
During lockdown the company has been working to develop new products, including a white rum named Jester to accompany its portfolio of hand-crafted products.
The name Jester is taken from the sculpture of a jester which sits in Henley Street, not far from Shakespeare’s Birthplace. Apparently almost all of Shakespeare’s jesters were fond drinkers and known to be bold, memorable and popular characters.
Pre-booked tours of the distillery include a gin or rum and choice of mixer, tutored tasting of three spirits, a guided distillery tour, plus an informative talk on the history of gin.
The experience lasts around 90 minutes and groups can enjoy 10% off distillery shop purchases. There is also free coach parking and the building is accessible throughout.
Jane McKay, groups/travel trade manager at Shakespeare Distillery, said “We are delighted to re-open our doors and welcome back visitors on our fun and informative tours after being closed for a long period.
“We are also looking forward to giving our visitors the chance to try our new Jester Rum along with our award-winning gins.”
