The St Albans at Christmas tour includes a visit to the Christmas Market, which is located in the walled Vintry Garden in the grounds of St Albans Cathedral, a festive 12 Days of Christmas Group tour of the Cathedral, and a Historic St Albans – A City Revealed tour after lunch.

The Christmas market opens on 24th November alongside the annual switching on of the St Albans lights, and will run until 18th December.

A range of gifts and homeware, from traditional, wooden, crafted gifts to personalised gifts, decorations, jewellery and fashion accessories, will be on sale, as will a selection of food and drink offerings, including the popular Bratwurst and hot pork rolls.

Tours

The 12 Days of Christmas tour of the Cathedral will feature an introduction to the new statues in the nave and the collection of Medieval wall paintings, followed by a mince pie and mulled wine in the Abbot’s Kitchen.

As well as the Historic St Albans – A City Revealed that takes place after lunch, for smaller groups, the Christmas Tower Tours at the cathedral might also be of interest. Parties of 12 will be escorted by a cathedral guide up to the Norman Tower, which is the only English 11th century cathedral tower still in its original form, and hear about the history of the tower.

The Christmas Tower Tours will take place on 30th November, 3rd and 7th December.

Coach parking

Free coach parking to GTOs planning to visit the city during the festive season will also be available at Batchwood Golf Course and Sports Centre, located on the outskirts of the city, with a drop-off point close to the Christmas market.

Batchwood Sports Centre has café and toilet facilities that coach drivers will be able to use.
