Storyhouse, a brand new £37-million theatre, cinema and library complex in Chester, has announced details for the new venue's inaugural theatre season.
Storyhouse will open in May 2017 with a run of four home-produced shows, performed in rep, by a company of 26.
The theatre’s first season will comprise a new musical based on The Beggar's Opera; the premiere of playwright Glyn Maxwell’s new adaptation of Alice in Wonderland; Shakespeare’s political thriller Julius Caesar; and comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
The season will run from 11th May until 27th August. The four shows are spread across the summer and audiences will be able to choose between seeing productions in the new theatre, and in Storyhouse’s Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre.
Alice in Wonderland, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Julius Caesar will transfer to Grosvenor Park for the height of summer, whilst The Beggar’s Opera will continue inside.
