The Addams Family will premiere in the UK and Ireland in April 2017 and will be directed by Matthew White.
The show will be presented by United Theatrical, Aria Entertainment and Music & Lyrics Limited, in association with the Festival Theatre Edinburgh, and will have music and lyrics by Andrew Lippa, based on the characters by Charles Addams.
The Addams Family focuses around Wednesday Addams who is described as the ultimate princess of darkness. Wednesday has grown up and fallen in love with a respectable young man and only her father, Gomez, knows.
Gomez is faced with the task of keeping this a secret from his wife Morticia, and things come to a head when the whole family – including Uncle Fester, Lurch and Pugsley – throw a dinner for Wednesday’s normal boyfriend and his parents.
The musical comedy will premiere at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh, on the 20th April 2017.
Selected dates include Northampton Royal & Derngate, Southend Cliffs Pavilion, Hall for Cornwall, Truro, and Mayflower Theatre, Southampton.
The final showing will take place at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff, on 12th August 2017.
Casting is yet to be announced.
The original Broadway production starred Nathan Lane as Gomez and Bebe Neuwirth as Moritica, and ran for just under two years at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
The show went on to tour the US, and international productions have been seen in Canada, Brazil, Mexico, Japan, Australia, Germany and the Czech Republic.
History of The Addams Family
The fictional characters of The Addams Family were first debuted in The New Yorker in 1938 as a group of 150 single-panel cartoons.
The cartoons have gone on to span television series, films and video games.
The most popular feature film is perhaps the 1991 production starring Anjelica Huston, Raúl Juliá, Christopher Lloyd and Christina Ricci.
