Ffestiniog Travel is offering groups the opportunity to experience the new Gotthard Base Tunnel in Switzerland, which is said to be the longest railway tunnel in the world.
Group travel organisers are now able to book an escorted tour with the rail specialist company that can include a visit to the newly constructed tunnel as well as the opportunity to explore different parts of Switzerland by train.
Tailor-made travel
Private group trips can be tailor made by Ffestiniog Travel and an itinerary that includes passage through the Gotthard Base Tunnel could also include tunnel rides on the Gotthard shuttle train, the chance to inspect the maintenance and intervention centres, and to see a fire and rescue train in action.
Return rail travel, bed and breakfast, and a standard-class Swiss Travel Pass can also be worked into a bespoke itinerary.
In addition, a private group tour can be designed to include travel around other parts of Switzerland as well as those locations on a particular itinerary, such as picturesque Chur, Switzerland’s oldest city, and Thun, gateway to the Bernese Oberland.
More about the Gotthard Base Tunnel
Due to be opened officially on 1st June, the Gotthard Base Tunnel will stretch for 57 km between Zurich and Milan. The journey will take less than three hours, shaving an hour off the current journey time.
The new railway tunnel surpassed the current record holder, Japan’s Seikan Tunnel, in terms of length and has cost £6.5 billion and taken 20 years to complete.
