Opening at the Manchester Opera House on 2nd November 2023 before heading across the UK, the new promotional video above teases the show through a comical sketch which pays homage to Jason Donovan and Kylie Minogue’s 1988 wedding in the Australian soap Neighbours.
The show is said to feature the soundtrack of a generation with music from Kylie Minogue (I Should Be So Lucky), Rick Astley (Never Gonna Give You Up), Jason Donovan (Too Many Broken Hearts) and Bananarama (Love In The First Degree).
The story follows the story of Ella and Nathan, a young couple, hopelessly in love and about to take the biggest step of their lives – marriage. Until it doesn’t go quite to plan.
Bringing together a cast of West End regulars, Billy Roberts and Lucy-Mae Sumner will lead as Nathan and Ella respectively. They are joined by the likes of Kayla Carter as Bonnie, Scott Paige as Michael and Giovanni Spanò as Ash. Creator of the musical, Debbie Isitt, is a BAFTA and EMMY award-winning writer and director.
Stock Aitken Waterman said: “We’re thrilled to be part of this wonderful new adventure. To see our songs take on a new life in the world of musical theatre and working on a collaboration with Debbie Isitt and her talented team is so exciting and very special.”
Kylie Minogue added: “I’m thrilled to announce that I will be joining Stock Aitken Waterman in presenting the new musical. It is the music that inspired a generation (plus my first five albums!) so to have all the SAW hits in this original story will make for a compelling, funny and heartfelt show.”
