West Somerset Railway will host its annual Spring Steam Gala in March 2016, when the themed event will take place in two parts.
On 5th and 6th March there will be a small scale commemorative weekend to mark the 50th anniversary of the final days of the Somerset and Dorset Railway.
On Thursday 10th through to Sunday 13th March, the gala event will take place, where various locomotives and model railways will be on view. On these days, the railway will recreate old scenes that took place over half a century ago.
The first spring steam gala event was held in March 1996 to mark the 30th anniversary of the closure of the Somerset and Dorset railway.
2016 will also see the introduction of catering specials such as Valentine’s Day, Mothering Sunday, fish and chip specials, Father’s Day and cheese and cider specials.
The Valentine’s Day specials include cream tea on the last train back from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard, whereas fish and chips and a pint of beer will be served on trains for the Father’s day catering special.
West Somerset Railway also offers discount for group travel.
