Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire has revealed a number of events taking place over the Christmas period, including an interactive theatre production and guided tours.
On 26th and 27th November, groups can witness the Darkness to Light Advent Procession, and see 13,000 candles light up the cathedral.
Two large and colourful processions will move around the cathedral during a service combining music and readings. The cathedral will start off in darkness, and then candles will be lit throughout the building so it is fully illuminated by the end of the service.
Closer to Christmas there will be an interactive family theatre production of A Winter’s Trail by Hoodwink Theatre Production Company. This will be an immersive theatrical trail that takes visitors through the cathedral and cloisters, and suitable for all ages. A Winter’s Trail will take place on 16th, 17th and 18th December.
Meanwhile, groups can take part in carol singing followed by mulled wine and mince pies on 6th and 9th December. A 40-feet Christmas tree will be inside the cathedral from 8th December.
Take a tour
If your group enjoys a tour, book to take a Twilight Tower Tour over the festive period. These guided tours allow groups of up to 12 people at a time to explore the cathedral tower and view the lights of Salisbury from the top.
Twilight Tower Tours culminate in a cream tea in the cathedral’s refectory. Groups wishing to stay a bit later are welcome to attend Choral Evensong in the cathedral, too.
The Twilight Tower Tour is timed to take place alongside Salisbury’s Christmas Market, so groups can precede or follow a tour with a visit to the traditional market stalls.
Salisbury Christmas Market will open on 24th November and run until 18th December, selling everything from gifts to food and drink.
Groups can take advantage of a coach drop-off point within meters of the market and a team of Christmas market ambassadors who will greet groups on arrival.
