Cilla the Musical – a production about the life of singer and entertainer Cilla Black – will premiere to the world when it goes on a UK tour this autumn.
Bill Kenwright and Laurie Mansfield will present the new musical about the life and legend of Cilla Black, which will open in her hometown at the Liverpool Empire on 7th September and run until 16th.
The tour circuit will include venues like Manchester’s Palace Theatre and The Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. More venues are to be announced in the future.
Cilla’s son, Robert Willis, will be the executive producer, and casting is yet to be announced.
The production has been adapted from the ITV mini-series of the same name, by BAFTA award winner, Jeff Pope (The Moorside, Philomena).
Synopsis
Cilla The Musical follows the extraordinary life of an ordinary teenage girl from Liverpool, Priscilla White, and her rocky, yet incredible, rise to fame.
By the age of 25 Cilla was recognized as an international singing star, and by 30 she had become a famous British television entertainer headlining series’ of Blind Date and Surprise Surprise; and groups watching will discover how she dealt with a life of showbiz.
The musical score is described as ‘the ultimate soundtrack to the 60s’ and will include some of Cilla Black’s greatest hits like Anyone Who Had a Heart, Alfie and Something Tells Me.
Other featuring songs will include Twist and Shout, and American influences like California Dreamin.
