This November, Yarn Market Hotel in Somerset is offering themed breaks to coincide with the ‘supermoon’, the point at which a full or new moon is at its closest point to the earth.
The two-day Full Moon and Exmoor break, which include dinner, bed and breakfast take place between either Friday 11th and Sunday 13th November, or Sunday 13th and Tuesday 15th November.
As part of the break groups will travel from the hotel, located in the Medieval village of Dunster in Somerset, to Exmoor, where they’ll take a star-lit walk and take in the supermoon.
Exmoor is a particularly good place to witness the phenomena because the park is a designated ‘dark skies’ area, which means it’s well away from light pollution.
The term ‘supermoon’ was created over 30 years ago by astrologer Richard Nolle. 2016 will see a total of six ‘supermoons’.
What else is on?
As well as as the Full Moon and Exmoor break, Yarn Market Hotel offers a range of other special interest breaks, such as its Garden Break which visits the garden of Hestercombe and/or Rosemoor.
There is also plenty of other attractions to visit whilst in Dunster and the surrounding area.
Open from March until the start of November, Dunster Castle is a National Trust property, which invites groups to discover over 1000 years of history, in particular the history of the last family to live in the castle, the Luttrells.
Its gardens are open all year round (excluding Christmas Day and Boxing Day) and there is a diverse range of wildlife in the open parkland and wooded areas surrounding the castle, which overlooks the Bristol Channel, the Quantock hills and the moors of Exmoor.
Groups can visit the castle independently or as part of Yarn Market Hotel’s Life at the Castle break, which runs throughout the year subject to availability.
The three-day break is available to groups with numbers of between ten to 30 people and offers a chance to view the castle privately and access areas not normally on public view.
There’s also the West Somerset Steam Railway, running from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard, which offers scenic views as it travels through the Quantocks.
Groups can venture into some of the small villages passed on the journey from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead (or vice versa) with a Rover Ticket that allows passengers to hop on and hop off at stations.
Exmoor should also be particularly popular with walking and cycling groups with plenty of routes to tackle.
Staff at the Yarn Market Hotel are on hand to offer advice on itineraries and walking routes.
Yarn Market Hotel has 28 ensuite bedrooms, as well as free parking for coaches.
